A Pennsylvania police officer recently barricaded himself, and then committed suicide after he was busted in a failed attempt to frame another person for burglary.
The officer faced arrest from other officers, who showed up to take Ronald W. Reinhart, Jr., 41 in on charges related to this failed framing attempt.
The Susquehanna Township police officer barricaded himself inside of his home with a firearm, around 12:42 p.m.
The York Dispatch reported that the Upper Allen Township police, Carroll Township police and tactical SWAT teams from Cumberland and York counties all surrounded the house, trying to get the officer to surrender. But the York County Coroner’s Office was ultimately called to the scene shortly after 4 p.m., when police entered the home and found Reinhart dead.
According to the York Dispatch, the coroner’s office ruled Reinhart shot himself to death.
Back up to July 25th…
Reinhart had carried out a house burglary and then given an “anonymous tip” giving the location of stolen jewelry from the house. The intention was to frame his estranged wife’s boyfriend, according to local WGAL.
But investigators quickly realized that Reinhart staged the burglary and hid the jewelry.
Reinhart was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking or disposition, receiving stolen property, loitering and prowling at night, tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, obstructing administration of law or other governmental function, official oppression, criminal mischief and false reports to law enforcement authorities, according to Lancaster Online.
